Personal Locator Beacon
Smaller than an energy bar and weighing just 1.6 ounces, the TracMe is a personal locator beacon which provides peace of mind in the backcountry. After you activate it and are reported lost, a TracMe helps rescuers find you quickly and efficiently. Perfect for day hikes, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and trail running. Signal range varies with terrain and on the rescue team's receiver; approximately ? to 1 mile range on the ground, and up to 20 miles range in the air. Sends out "Help...Emergency" audible signal every 15 seconds for 7 days on FRS channel 1, the default channel of trail radios (3 day battery life if below -20? F). To be rescued you need to be reported as missing, a Tracme does not automatically instigate a search. Rescuers need a trail radio and a GPS, no other special equipment is required. Search times will be minimized by providing a detailed adventure plan to the person responsible for notifying authorities of a delayed return. Not a satellite based personal locator beacon.
