Personal Locator Beacon
Smaller than an energy bar and weighing just 1.6 ounces, the TracMe is a personal locator beacon which provides peace of mind in the backcountry. After you activate it and are reported lost, a TracMe helps rescuers find you quickly and efficiently. Perfect for day hikes, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and trail running. Signal range varies with terrain and on the rescue team's receiver; approximately ? to 1 mile range on the ground, and up to 20 miles range in the air. Sends out "Help...Emergency" audible signal every 15 seconds for 7 days on FRS channel 1, the default channel of trail radios (3 day battery life if below -20? F). To be rescued you need to be reported as missing, a Tracme does not automatically instigate a search. Rescuers need a trail radio and a GPS, no other special equipment is required. This 2005 version of Petzl's Quark P has been modified with a plastic griprest gaurd that curves up from the shaft's end to protect your pinky from getting jammed into the ice. Curved handle provides good clearance and an efficient swing. Minimum mass around the handle's rotation point and maximum around the head of the axe for greater leverage. Forged pick is thinner at tip to prevent ice shatter. Steep-angled first tooth for thin and small edges. Beveled teeth allow easier removal in deep placements.
