This kit is one component of a base rack system and works in combination with the Yakima Q Tower Complete base rack in order to increase crossbar spread on 2-door short roof cars, creating more stability for carrying longer loads and accepting any Yakima gear attachments. . Adjusting stretch kit positions rear Q-Towers farther back on 2-door cars. To see if your car requires the Q Stretch kit in combination with the Q Tower System, check the Yakima Automated Fit Guide.Q: How much can I carry? A: This varies by vehicle, load type and crossbar length. In general, the Q Stretch Kit is used to improve load capacity. Check the fit list to find out what load types and weight capacity applies when using the Q Stretch Kit with your car. If the Q Stretch Kit is not specifically listed for your vehicle, then don ;t try to use it. Q: I have a factory rack, will the Q Stretch Kit still work? A: Sometimes it will. Look up your vehicle in the Fit List. If a Q Stretch Kit option is listed in the "with a factory rack section then it should work. Also check for notes at the end of the listing to see if the factory rack causes any limitations. Q: What sort of maintenance should I perform? A: Performing maintenance is always a good idea to protect your car and make your rack system last longer. Lubricate nuts, screws, or bolts with grease. Lubricate locks with graphite. Remove the rack when not in use, or at least periodically to clean the pads and the vehicles roof. Clean the rack periodically, especially in marine environments and where road salt is used. When the rack will not be in use for an extended period, it is a good idea to take the rack off of the car. You can also do a lot for yourself by: (1) Making sure the car is clean and well waxed prior to installing the rack, (2) Following all instructions for installation and usage, and (3) avoiding situations, like car washes, where the rack may be impacted.Q: Do I need any Tools to install the towers? A: Nope.Q. The towers contact my factory crossbars. Is that okay? A. No. If any part of an accessory or tower contacts the factory installed crossbars, and if the factory bars cannot be moved out of the way, remove them completely. Q. Where can I get more of the clear tape on the claw? A. The clear tape is often referred to as "Rhino Hide" or "ski tape" and can be purchased in auto supply stores or outdoor retailers. Q. One tower installed fine, but the other one keeps popping off the bar. What's wrong? A. Be sure to pull the towers towards you while tightening the adjustment screw.
