We use ABS instead of fiberglass because it is lighter and less expensive, while still being really strong (=maximum value). Light weight is important because the lighter the box is, the more weight you can put into it.Q: Will it fit on my factory rack? A: We have done extensive testing on factory racks to see which ones are strong enough to handle a luggage box. We have also redesigned the mounting hardware to fit a variety of different crossbar shapes. Look in the Fit List to see if the SpaceBooster boxes are options in the list of accessories for your vehicle.Q: Will it fit on my vehicle? A: Different vehicles have different capacities. We need to consider weight capacity, crossbar spread, wind lift and other factors to answer that. Look in the Fit List to see if the SpaceBooster boxes are options in the list of accessories for your vehicle.Q: Can I drill new mounting holes in my gear box? A: This is not good idea. The mounting holes in all of the gear boxes are positioned to optimize durability and compatibility with appropriate crossbar spreads. Drilling holes to mount a box in some other way could compromise its design, not to mention, void the warranty.

This set of 4 towers attaches to both your vehicle (using specific "clips" which are sold separately) and to the 2 crossbars (sold separately). The towers are designed to permit attachment to vehicles or campers with raingutter or driprails along the roofline. Constructed of Zytel (TM) nylon for shock absorbance. Each tower accepts a SKS lock core (sold separately) to prevent theft.SOLID RAINGUTTER TOWERS PERFECT FOR RAINGUTTERS (LIKE, DUH) CAMPER SHELLS AND TRUCKS- Built-in clamps grab raingutters like a shopaholic bargain hunter at a designer sale - Adjusts to non-parallel raingutters, and parallel universes - Lockable with SKS cores - sold separately - Made from tough Zytel(tm) nylon - Product # 00101 - set of four - patented Q: What else is needed to complete a basic rack set up? A: Just crossbars and lock cores. Check the Fit List to find the correct length crossbar. Locks are not required, but a really good idea.Q: How tall is the tower? These guidelines will help you determine if the fit is correct. Make sure that the black plastic base that cradles the crossbar is completely contacting the crossbar. This will make the towers stand up straight.Q: How much can I carry? A: This varies by vehicle, load type and crossbar length. Check the fit list to find out what load types (bikes, skis, boats, etc.) and weight capacity applies to your car. The fit list will also tell you the best crossbar length (48", 58" 66" or 78") to use. You can go up one size if necessary, but duck your head!Q: Will the rack make a lot of noise? A: Maybe. Wind noise is hard to predict, but it is more often an issue when the rack has little or no load. Yakima make two products, the Fairing and Windjammer, to help control this situation. Large loads tend to dampen noise also. If you have a sunroof the fairing is a good way to help control air flow.Q: Will it damage my car? A: Yakima takes fitting cars very seriously, and do everything we can to minimize any effect our rack may have on your cars. However, anything coming into contact with a car's finish, our racks included, will have some effect over time, and some cars are more prone to these issues than others. So where the possibility of such issues is predictable, we make note of that in the Fit List. When the rack will not be in use for an extended period, it is a good idea to take the rack off of the car. You can also do a lot for yourself by: (1) Making sure the car is clean and well waxed prior to installing the rack, (2) Following all instructions for installation and usage, and (3) avoiding situations, like car washes, where the rack may be impacted.Q: Do I need any Tools to install the towers? A: Just a Quick Wrench, and it's in the box.
