The Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia. It is located in a mountainous region between Mala Kapela and Licka Pljesivica.

The park was established in 1949 and is known for its tufa formation, which created the lakes. In 1979, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park covers an area of nearly 300 km2 and is mostly covered in forest.

The lake system consists of 16 named lakes, and several smaller, unnamed lakes. The lakes are divided into Upper Lakes (Proscansko jezero, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Batinovac, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Vir, Galovac, Milino jezero, Gradinsko jezero, Burgeti and Kozjak) and Lower Lakes (Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluderovac and Novakovica Brod).

The park offers seven routes and four hiking trails for visitors to explore the lake system. It is open year-round.

The Siega Klettersteig, categorized as a C/D level of difficulty, is perhaps the least interesting of the three via ferratas in the Silberkarklamm gorge. This doesn't mean that it's not good, just that the other two are even better. :-)
