We met geotrekking treasure hunters from Gheorgheni, Miercurea Ciuc and Targu Mures in Rastolita. We entered the Calimani Mountains with an off-road vehicle, along the Rastolita and Tihu streams. As it turned out, the well-worn forest road can also be traveled by car for a good distance.

Although the path from the Gelmerbahn parking bypasses the Handeckfall waterfall, it is worth descending a few steps from the valley station of the funicular, to reach Handeckfallbrücke. Along a steep incline, a concrete staircase leads up to the castle, which is built atop a mountain. It is said that one must climb 1,480 steps, though we didn't count. :-)
