The Rak lake is located 2 km north of the village Porumbenii Mari, at 600 m altitude. It is a typical lake
formed behind a land-blockage in the Ice age. The lake-forming landslides were the result of the specific rock
composition of the area (sedimentary rocks, clayey Mars and sandstones dating from the Neogen age). The
circumference of the lake is 800 m, the length 250 m, width 150 m, max. depth 7 m, and the surface is 28.000 m2
(10 ha together with the joined area). The 10 ha area is protected by the law since 2000. The lake is the
habitat of a rare carnivore plant, the Utricularia vulgaris.
