Shiroka Laka is one of the most beautiful villages in Bulgaria. It is located in the Rhodope Mountains, in the Smolyan province, in the southern part of the country. The village has a population of fewer than six hundred residents. Due to its architectural significance, it is a protected area. The name of the village derives from an old Bulgarian word meaning wide meander.
